A group of NYSID students have been invited by the Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) to design two rooms in the Jethro Coffin House, the oldest house on Nantucket. Recently, BFA students Faith Hoops, and Emily Kent, and MFA-1 students Tom Elka, and Larissa Moutrier traveled with NYSID's dean, Ellen Fisher, to Nantucket to survey the building and investigate on-island resources for their project.

In 2013, NYSID established its archives in anticipation of its 100th anniversary in 2016. Since then, the majority of NYSID’s institutional collections as well as a number of acquired archives from interior designers and firms have been organized and rehoused according to archival standards. In 2014, Nora Reilly was hired as NYSID’s first official staff archivist.

A team of NYSID students created a stunning installation for this year’s Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids (DIFFA) Dining by Design. The event runs from March 17-21 at Pier 92 and will bring together international and local designers to create dining installations to raise funds for DIFFA’s efforts fighting HIV/AIDS.

On March 3, a reception for Interior Design Today: Alumni Exhibition was held to celebrate the opening of an exhibition of work from select alumni in honor of NYSID’s 100th anniversary. It was a festive evening, with many graduates, design professionals, and friends gathering to view the work of more than 30 alumni showing a wide range of projects for living, working, playing, and healing.
