At Commencement 2024, NYSID's Office of Academic Affairs awarded Jason Win ‘24 (MFA1) with the Robert Herring Travel Prize. The prize recognizes exceptional design and presentation skills and must be used within 10 months following graduation, for a program of travel proposed by the recipient.
NYSID students took honors in the Student Competition of this year’s Nantucket by Design from July 15-18. Nantucket by Design is an annual fundraiser for the Nantucket Historical Association (NHA), as well as an amazing networking opportunity that brings leading designers (and design enthusiasts) to the island for four days of panels, exhibitions, and parties. The NYSID student winners were Megan Millner (BFA), Valerie Cheung (BFA), and Shoshana Beck (BFA).
On September 11, the Kravet showroom opened its doors to more than 50 New York School of Interior Design students, members, and supporters of the Asian American Pacific Islander Design Alliance (AAPIDA) who were there to see their beautiful archives, with a display highlighting Asian fabrics. With food, drinks, and conversation flowing, the showroom was filled with excitement as NYSID celebrated the launch of the first AAPIDA student chapter in the country.

Career changers Leslie Adato (AAS) and Lucy Yang (BID to AAS) started their journeys at NYSID with the six-week Introduction to Interior Design course, through NYSID’s Institute for Continuing and Professional Studies. A new cycle of Introduction to Interior Design courses begins the week of September 9. NYSID offers sections of Introduction to Interior Design on multiple days of the week, with both online and onsite options available.
NYSID Alums Atara Beller (MFA) ’23 and Melania Tosh (MFA) ’23 recently launched their new design firm, Malt Studio Interiors, with an act of service. The Kingston Design Connection selected the up-and-coming duo to design a guest bedroom in the Kingston Design Showhouse, a benefit for the Ulster County Habitat for Humanity.
When the Russian Federation’s invasion and annexation of Crimea, in 2014, forced her family to immigrate to New York, it was Valeriia Scherbyna’s love for art and design that kept her happy, and eventually led her to NYSID.
Through its Pre-College Scholarship Fund, NYSID introduces high school students from communities traditionally underrepresented in design to the profession at a formative period in their lives.

Dialogues on Design
Dialogues on Design consists of a series of four moderated conversations with prominent interior designers where each discusses their approach to their work — their inspiration and influences, their response to trends, and the evolution of the field. We are happy to announce that this year these conversations with leaders in the design world will be moderated by Dennis Scully from Business of Home. Dennis is the host of the BOH podcast, where he explores changes and challenges in facing the Interior Design community.
