Spring Thesis Exhibition Openings
On May 16 and 17, receptions were held to celebrate the opening of the BFA Thesis Projects and the MFA Thesis and MPS Studio Projects exhibitions. The events kicked off an exciting week of commencement activities where graduates unveiled their final projects to family members, friends, and the NYSID community.
All projects are based on the adaptive reuse of existing buildings and showcase a diverse collection of designs for hospitality, residential, retail, healthcare, and education. Students took a multi-functional, holistic approach to wellness and relaxation in designs for monasteries, cultural centers, spas, and luxury hotels. They addressed critical issues facing today’s society such as stress and anxiety disorders, learning disabilities, and veteran care by designing innovative and interactive museums, schools, and refugee centers. Projects also incorporated the latest advancements in lighting techniques and sustainable materials.
See all undergraduate projects and graduate projects, and follow NYSID on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to see them during NYSID’s summer #DailyDesign series. The BFA Thesis Projects and the MFA Thesis and MPS Studio Projects exhibitions will be on view through August 18; BFA projects at the NYSID Gallery, 161 East 69 Street, Mon-Thus, 11-6pm; and MFA and MPS projects at the NYSID Graduate Center, 401 Park Avenue South, by appointment only.
