The New York School of Interior Design is pleased to announce it will honor Suzanne Rheinstein, owner of HOLLYHOCK, landscape architect Jorge Sanchez, and principal landscape designer of Edwina von Gal + Co., Edwina von Gal at its Annual Gala. The ceremonial event will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at a private club in New York City. Interior designer, Alexa Hampton; editorial director of Hearst Design Group, Newell Turner; owner of Decorative Antiques Ltd., Betsey Ruprecht; and philanthropist, Maria Spears will serve as the Gala co-chairs.

Students Conduct Research for NYC Health & Hospitals

NYSID faculty member Dr. Nicolas Watkins, Performance Analytics Manager for Gensler, and Breeze Glazer, Director of NYSID’s Master of Professional Studies in Healthcare Interior Design, guided a team of NYSID MPS-H students as they conducted research, on behalf of the NYC Health & Hospitals System, at Ida G. Israel Community Health Center in Brooklyn and Judson Health Clinic in Manhattan.

NYSID Alumnae Named IFDA Rising Stars

Samantha Goldman and Samantha Polkow, often referred to as Sam + Sam, share more than a first name. They share a business philosophy and friendship that make them a match made in heaven. Sam + Sam met during their last semester at NYSID in a class taught by Dr. Ellen Fisher, and a friendship instantly blossomed. Sam + Sam teamed up on class projects, discovering that their individual talents were perfectly suited to teamwork.  The rest is history.

Founders of Handin Browne, a full-service interior design firm based in New York City and established in December 2017, Sam + Sam were together named a Rising Star of Interior Design by International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA).

Trauma-informed Design Creates a Safe Space for Children

The Senior Director of the Queens Child Advocacy Center (CAC) reached out to the College with a unique challenge: though designed to be child-friendly, the bright, toy-filled space might be too stimulated for her clients. Under the leadership of Terry Kleinberg (MFA-1), students came up with a strategy to ensure that child victims would feel safe, secure, and calm.

Study Abroad: Ireland

From May 12-26, a group of NYSID students went on a study abroad trip to Ireland for the “Aoibhneas na hÉireann” (Treasures of Ireland): Irish Art, Design, and Culture in Dublin, Kilkenny, and Cork course taught by Dr. Jennifer Goff; NYSID instructor, Fubright Scholar, and curator of the Eileen Gray collection at the National Museum of Ireland.
