Unlock Your Potential: The Ultimate Guide to Continuing Education at NYSID
In today’s professional world, continuing education is one of the most effective ways to stay ahead and achieve your goals. NYSID’s Institute for Continuing and Professional Studies (ICPS) is an excellent place to enhance your skills and acquire new ones.
The highly sought-after course, Introduction to Interior Design course (CE050) is perfect for those considering a design career. In this six-week studio course, students design a residential space and focus on topics such as building a client profile, space planning, drafting, and furniture selections.
“The Introduction to Interior Design course changed my life. It introduced me to a career and industry that was more than I imagined it would be,” recalls Ashley Rose ’10 (BFA), ICPS director. “In six short weeks, I was hooked. I knew I wanted and needed to learn more, it was the perfect place to start and jumpstart my journey into interior design.”
ICPS offers technical courses in AutoCAD, SketchUp, InDesign, Photoshop, and Revit for those interested in expanding their skillset or getting up to date with the latest software. Broadening your knowledge will improve your designs, strengthen your portfolio, and unlock new opportunities. Check out all our continuing education courses here.
Earn Credits Towards a NYSID Program
Non-matriculated students can register for courses to earn academic credit that can be used towards one of our programs (Basic Interior Design certificate, Associate in Applied Science, and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design). These courses cover foundational design knowledge from color theory to software skills.
Dalia Cunow, a current BID student and Managing Member of Interior Design Studio Casa Cunow, decided to pursue this certificate program because it is offered part-time with online and in-person courses which was ideal for her schedule as she is a busy mother of three.
She believes that the introductory credit courses are a great way to start your educational journey since they give you a taste of what is to come, if you decide to pursue an academic program. She found that the 128 Basic Drafting course, an introduction to the tools and principles of architectural drafting, is essential for designers as they learn the skills necessary to help create a representation of their creative vision.
Her journey has been guided by expert faculty and advisors, including faculty member Taruan Mabry who always helps his students achieve their goals and encourages growth through detailed feedback on projects.
Cunow recommends these courses to aspiring designers, “I think it's a great introduction to the skills needed to pursue this career. Taking the time to learn these skills will really help set you apart and enable you to formally learn your craft.”
