The Impact of Light and Color in Design Series
In Fall 2023, New York School of Interior Design joined forces with the Designers Lighting Forum of New York (DLFNY) to introduce a new series, The Impact of Light and Color in Design.
Held at NYSID’s 70th Street location, this series of free monthly events explores the dynamic world of lighting design. The events spanned the 2023-24 academic year, with presentations by experts in the field, including faculty from our Master of Professional Studies in Lighting Design (MPSL) program. The one-year program provides a rigorous education in the art and science of architectural lighting design.
The premiere event “Beautiful Lighting and Functional Light” was led by NYSID instructor and DLFNY board member Dan Blitzer and explored how to create stunning lighting that serves a practical purpose.
Blitzer delved into the importance of lighting design knowledge and what to expect from this series, “Most of us recognize the importance of lighting; the challenge is learning to see the play of light and to create memorable effects. The Impact of Light and Color in Design, a new series to inspire interior designers, is up to the challenge. Addressing varied applications, speakers in the series share rich images, provide technical suggestions, and answer audience questions. Regardless of your background, you will enjoy a remarkable and readily accessible evening in lighting.”
Blitzer believes that lighting is an essential part of design education. NYSID agrees, as our MPSL program balances conceptual and practical techniques for successful lighting designs. Graduates of our program work at top lighting design, architectural, and interior design firms and develop career-long mentoring relationships with leaders in the field.
The final event in the series is “The Powerful Drama of Light and Shadow” on Wednesday, May 1 at 6 pm.
