NYSID selected to participate at Design Miami
New York (October 2, 2009) – Design Miami/, the global forum that biannually brings together influential designers, design dealers, collectors, curators, and critics from around the world has selected New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) to create the event’s Design Talk and Media Lounge space for their winter installation to be held in Miami December 1-5, 2009. NYSID is the first educational institution to contribute to the interior layout of Design Miami/ since the design show debuted in December 2005.
A team of three students, under the leadership of two faculty advisors, will design the approximately 1200 square foot multiuse public area within the Design Miami/ main exhibition venue. NYSID students Sarah J. Muchow (BFA ’10), Daniel J. Park (BFA ’10), and Stefan Steil (MFA ’10) will comprise the student team and professors René Estacio and Debra Bryant will serve as the team’s advisors.
“We are very excited to be involved in Design Miami/, an event I have long viewed as vital to the marriage of art and design,” said NYSID President Christopher J. Cyphers. “This is a great opportunity for our students’ work to be seen by key people in the worlds of art and design and the project provides the design team with the invaluable real-life experience working with a client who has very specific needs and parameters.”
"Design Miami/ is dedicated to supporting young and emerging design talent," comments Wava Carpenter, Associate Director of Design Miami/. "The New York School of Interior Design is one of the most prestigious design institutions in the United States, and we are thrilled to give select students the opportunity to showcase their work to an important audience of design collectors and enthusiasts."
Design Miami/ is partnered with Art Basel Miami Beach, the most important art show in the United States and sister event of Switzerland’s world renowned Art Basel, held every June. Highlights from this year’s Design Miami/ will be a commissioned project from the Designer of the Year and a series of Design Talks and Design Performances featuring top designers and luminaries from the worlds of interiors, fashion, and architecture. The show will also include over 20 design galleries, as well as VIP lounges from HSBC Private Bank, Audi, and Swarovski Crystal Palace.
