You’re invite to join the New York School of Interior Design for the first ever Teaching Green Symposium October 8 & 9, 2021
The New York School of Interior Design’s Teaching Green Symposium (https://teachinggreen.nysid.edu), will take place on October 8th and 9th, 2021 as a hybrid event, with both an on-site and virtual live stream participation opportunities. The Teaching Green symposium will bring together award-winning practitioners and higher education experts in the field of sustainable design to educate design faculty and students, interior design professionals, and the greater design community.
“Climate change is an existential crisis, and it’s NYSID’s mission and responsibility is to make sure our interior design students are equipped to design with intention around the ways in which our industry impacts the planet.”, says NYSID President David Sprouls. “We’re doing this by weaving sustainability into every course; by running the only Master of Professional Studies in Sustainable Interior Environments in the nation; and by educating students, faculty and interior design professionals on the latest and best ideas in sustainable design at our upcoming Teaching Green Symposium.”
Featuring keynote speakers Eric Corey Freed (Cannon Design), Jennifer Graham (Perkins & Will), Avinash Rajagopal (Metropolis Magazine) and Andrew Revkin (The Earth Institute), the symposium will challenge the academic and professional communities to inspire interior design students to create spaces that are not only beautiful and healthy, but also responsible, ethical and effective. While the Symposium will be virtual, the opening and closing keynotes will be in-person and live-streamed with receptions following. In addition to the keynote speakers, symposium session topics include case studies on Best Practices in “Green Hospitality Design” and “Green Schools Design”, as well as exciting speed presentations of Innovative Sustainability Teaching Techniques from six educators selected through a double blind peer review in association with the Interior Designers Educators Council. In addition the symposium offers the voices of future designers as interior design students from schools in New York City and beyond participate in a roundtable discussion about sustainability and interior design education. There will also be Q&A opportunities throughout the event for all attendees.
The Teaching Green Symposium is sponsored by The William & Flora Hewlett Foundation,as the primary donor. Keynote sponsors are Benjamin Moore, Material Bank, Perkins&Will and Sandow Media Group.
