Remembering Arthur Satz
The New York School of Interior Design is saddened by the news that former president Arthur Satz passed away on November 10, 2018. Mr. Satz, who first became affiliated with NYSID in 1963, rose to the rank of President and Chairman of the Board in 1975. During his tenure, NYSID became a degree-granting college that has grown into the top-ranked institution it is today, thanks in no small part to Mr. Satz’s vision, effort, and profound tenacity which set NYSID on its current path.
As a Fulbright Scholar, and later as an instructor at Vassar College and Yale, Mr. Satz learned and taught about the unique ability of interdisciplinary arts education to open minds and widen the focus of design students. With a worldliness and an enthusiasm that brought depth and nuance to all of his tasks, Mr. Satz proved himself to be a capable and beloved President.
In 1995, the College named the auditorium in its 70th Street campus Arthur King Satz Hall in honor of Satz’s dedication and his hard work as President and on the Board of Trustees. The College is honored to have been shaped and lead by Mr. Satz. He will be greatly missed.
