Students Receive NEWH Scholarships

Two NYSID students have been selected to receive scholarships from the NEWH Hospitality Industry Network, the principal networking, education, and scholarship resource for the hospitality industry and related fields. BFA student Aparna Avasarala (pictured above) was awarded the Ken Schindler Memorial Scholarship on November 10 at the 2016 Platinum Circle Awards Gala, a banquet to honor hotel and restaurant designers and architects for their career achievements. Aparna and AAS student Tova Tropp will each be awarded with NEWH NY Chapter Scholarship Awards at a ceremony taking place later this month.

To apply, Aparna and Tova each wrote essays that detailed the vision for their designs, outlined their leadership experience, and described how their design would make a difference in the world. “The NEWH can open a lot of doors of opportunity in our field and it is a great organization to help us launch our careers,” said Aparna. “Winning these scholarships will give us a lot of exposure to and insight into the real world of hospitality design. It is truly a great validation to receive such an award from such a prestigious foundation.”

Congratulations to both students!
