NYSID Honors Mario Buatta
Last Thursday, October 6th, the design community gathered at NYSID to celebrate the dedication of the Mario Buatta Materials Atelier. The Atelier, which functions as the materials library and work area for students, is very much at the heart of the School. As such, we were thrilled to have it be renamed in Buatta’s honor and to acknowledge his illustrious career and longtime association with NYSID as an advisory board member.
Mario Buatta was joined by over 75 guests, including President Christopher Cyphers, Chairman Patricia Sovern, and NYSID Board members Alexander Cortesi, James Druckman, Ross Francis and David Scott. Many distinguished members of the interior design community also came out, including Amy Lau, Campion Platt, Bunny Williams, Michael Boodro of Elle Décor and Newell Turner of House Beautiful.
President Cypher’s summed it up nicely in his speech, “Who better than Mario Buatta, the very man who personifies interior decorating, to have this Atelier named in his honor? It’s a place that will educate our students and forever linking them with one of the powerhouses in the design world.”
Chairman Sovern also announced the creation of the endowed Mario Buatta Scholarship, a fitting tribute and wonderful way to help the next generation of interior designers.
