Alex Papachristidis
Albert Hadley Lifetime Achievement Award
Alex Papachristidis brings a curatorial eye to every detail of his lush and collected interiors. At home with a wide array of styles, colors, and designs, his broad taste allows him to collaborate with his clients to create spaces that suit their sensibilities. These relationships often last years and span multiple homes, each one a reflection of its particular location and style of architecture. Alex encourages his clients to be collectors, working with them to gather antiques, artisanal furniture, contemporary art, or objects that make each space personal. He remains involved with the client down to the finishing details, for example placing every accessory, finding the right florist, creating custom linens, or assembling tablescapes for each occasion. His love of the art of the table has led him to create Everyday Elegance Collection together with Lisa McCarthy, a business dedicated to making beautifully curated tables accessible.
Born and raised in New York City, Alex traveled widely in his youth, helping to cultivate his eye for interior decorating. Since establishing his firm in 1987, these cosmopolitan sensibilities have brought his work into homes all over the United States to Europe and Saudi Arabia, and also into the pages of Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, House Beautiful, House & Garden, Southern Accents, InStyle, The New York Times, and numerous published collections. In 2012, his own book The Age of Elegance: Interiors by Alex Papachristidis was published with great success by Rizzoli. Papachristidis has been named to Elle Décor’s “A-list of Interior Designers,” and for several years, the AD100 List. His second book, Living an Elegant Life (and having fun doing it), is due out from Rizzoli in 2022.
Alex is first and foremost a proud and thankful New Yorker and believes that charity begins at home. His extensive charitable work has included participation on four occasions in the Kips Bay Designer Show House, raising crucial funds for the after school and enrichment programs of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club. A lover of animals, Papachristidis is proud to sit on the board of the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons.
