New York, NY – August 16, 2018 – The New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) is pleased to announce its upcoming fall schedule of exhibitions; lectures; and other public programs with award-winning leaders in interior design and architecture. The public programs will begin on Wednesday, September 26 and continue throughout the fall season.

These public programs gather a diverse group of industry leaders to participate in panels and discussions on topics about interior design, architecture, and the build environment.

All Fall Public Programs will be held at the New York School of Interior Design – Arthur Satz Auditorium – 170 East 70 Street, New York City.

SEPTEMBER

Creating Beauty, Changing Lives: The Artisans of The Alpha Workshops

In this presentation, Paul Kratz, Sales Director, and Erik Savage, Ed Farrell and Russell van Peterson, Alpha Workshop Studio Managers will discuss the decorative arts services they offer interior designers and architects, including custom decorative paint and plaster finishes, gilding, and on-site art installations. Alpha artisans also produce unique hand-painted wallpapers, custom furniture and lighting, all made to specification and available through select showrooms. Some of the stunning special projects created by Alpha and featured in the presentation include: the recreation of a historically accurate faux marble floor in Gracie Mansion's grand entryway and an intensive restoration of the Prince George Hotel ballroom, including mold-making, casting, gilding and decorative painting.

Untold Stories: Women of Architecture and Design

Join us for a panel discussion highlighting the stories of women in the fields of architecture and interior design, throughout history to the present day. Panelists will include Victoria Rosner and Mary McLeod.  In addition to being professors at Columbia University, Rosner and McLeod launched Pioneering Women of American Architecture in early 2018 with the support of the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation.

They will be joined by Tamara Eaton of Tamara Eaton LLC Designs, along with Mimi Hoang, co-founder and Principal of nARCHITECTS. This discussion will look at feminist practices in architecture, design, and beyond, recognizing how our past has informed our present and what changes are in store for future practices.

Join designer India Hicks and ICAA and NYSID Board Member Alexa Hampton for a glimpse into India's life and work through the lens of four extraordinary houses, highlighting stunning examples of both traditional and contemporary English design.

Beginning with India's extraordinary life growing up as British and design royalty, India, joined by lifelong friend Alexa Hampton, will reveal her own story and the story of her family's homes: the renowned Broadlands estate, the Britwell House, and the Grove—including the Grove's famous garden, designed by India's father, David Hicks. Then, India will discuss her new Oxfordshire home, America Farm, exploring how she has reinterpreted the English tradition expressed in her childhood homes and made it her own.

Life Along the Hudson - The Historic Country Estates of the Livingston Family

Pieter Estersohn will introduce his new book, Life Along the Hudson: The Historic Country Estates of the Livingston Family, published by Rizzoli. The renowned photographer presents thirty-five sublime country homes overlooking the majestic Hudson River, offering some of the finest examples of stately American architecture built between 1730 and 1946 — all originally owned by members of the Livingston family and their descendants.

Estersohn’s photography, one stunning interior and exterior view after another, provides a comprehensive private visit to the architectural legacy, picturesque gardens, and contemporary design of the present owners who include members of the Livingston family as well as celebrities who have navigated to the Hudson Valley. Most of these are photographed for the first time.

The Black Interior Designers Network: Breaking the Mold

In this panel discussion, founder and project manager of Kimberly & Cameron Interiors located in Atlanta, Georgia and president of the Black Interior Designers Network (BIDN), Keia McSwain, along with members of BIDN will share the real deal on how they’ve overcome adversity in the design industry and how their journey has led them up to where they are today.
