NYSID announces Public Programs for Fall 2017
Programs include lectures about the past, present, and future of interior design with industry leaders, as well as a film screening and panel discussions.
New York, NY – August 21, 2017 – The New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) announces its fall 2017 lineup of exhibitions, lectures, and book signings with some of the most respected leaders in the fields of interior design and architecture.
NYSID is also participating in Archtober (October 1 -31), an annual, month-long festival of architecture activities, programs, and exhibitions taking place during the month of October. Archtober presents special tours, lectures, films and exhibitions that focus on the importance of architecture and design in everyday life. The festival’s many participating organizations aim to raise awareness of the important role of design in our city and to build a lasting civic and international recognition of the richness of New York’s built environment.

SEPTEMBER
Navigating the New World of Design Media

Margaret Russell, editor-in-chief of Galerie magazine and Rizzoli editor Carl Dellatore discuss the adapting new media landscape and how this transition will affect interior designers and architects.
OCTOBER
Charles Le Brun and the Image of Louis XIV

Thursday, October 5, 6pm
A co-sponsored event with the ICAA, Dr. Wolf Burchard will address the topics in his book, The Sovereign Artist: Charles Le Brun and the Image of Louis XIV. The book explores Louis XIV’s principal painter and how he sought to translate the King’s desire for power into a visual brand.

Editor, reporter, curator, and scholar of subjects ranging from architecture and design to social history and popular culture, Mitchell Owens, decorative arts editor at Architectural Digest will speak on current interior design trends and the future of the field.
Making Places: Designing for the Non-Traditional Media Canvas

In collaboration with Archtober, NYSID will present a lecture featuring Michael Schneider, ESI Design’s senior designer and AV technologist, who will explore how to navigate both architecture and content when designing in our current climate of non-traditional media and built environments.

A film screening of Sebastián Errazuriz: Monologues in the Artist's Studio by Palu Abadia. Sebastián Errazuriz is a Brooklyn-based artist/designer pushing the boundaries between art, photography, design, architecture, and fashion. A conversation to follow moderated by design historian, Daniella Ohad.

The contributors of The Rockefeller Family Gardens: An American Legacy, with photography by Larry Lederman; essays by Todd Forrest, Vice President of Horticulture at the New York Botanical Garden and Cynthia Bronson Altman, Curator of the Collections at Kykuit will lead the panel discussion focusing on the horticulture and landscape mastery of the Rockefeller Family Gardens.

AD100 designer Thomas Jayne joins Winterthur Design Associates’ principal designer Sandy Brown in celebrating her new book The Well-Dressed Window: Curtains at Winterthur. Jayne and Brown will discuss Henry Francis du Pont’s extraordinary taste and eye that has transformed interior design.

New York Living: Re-Inventing Home

Paul Gunther, co-author of New York Living: Re-Inventing Home will be joined by Tamara Eaton and David Mann, two designers featured in the book, to explore contemporary examples of residential design found amongst the five boroughs of New York City.
