New York School of Interior Design Board of Trustees appoints new chairman

New York, NY – October 31, 2017 – The New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ellen Kravet as the new Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Kravet – who has served as a Trustee since 2012 and ascended to the role of Vice Co-chair of the Board of Trustees in 2014 – was approved unanimously in September 2017 by the College’s Board of Trustees. In her new role, she will oversee the College’s academic programs and provide oversight for NYSID’s administrative and financial operations.

Kravet brings a wealth of practical leadership experience to this critical position at the College. She is Executive Vice President and Co-Owner of Kravet Inc., a fifth-generation decorative home furnishings firm. Together with her two brothers and sister-in-law, Ellen and her family have expanded Kravet Inc. into the global leader in ‘to the trade’ home furnishings.

“It is a role that combines two things I love most in life (besides my husband), interior design and education,” said Kravet. “I’m also excited about NYSID’s executive team, because they are adaptive, forward-thinking, and open to new directions.”

“Ellen Kravet brings valuable experience to this position as well as a deep understanding of the design profession,” said NYSID president David Sprouls. “I am delighted to work with her as we build on the College’s rich history and legacy, and know that her leadership will help propel us into our second century.”

Most recently, Kravet served on NYSID’s Committee on Student Life, the Financial Overview Committee, and the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees. She is also currently Vice-Chair of the Board of Cape Regional Medical Center and Chair of the Annual Art Show at the Wetlands Institute.

Kravet, who holds a Master’s Degree in Elementary and Special Education from Hofstra University, is active on the Women's Leadership Council at her alma mater Lafayette College. As a former educator, she maintains an involvement with their student and alumni activities. She also continues to demonstrate her commitment and dedication personally sharing her knowledge of the industry during tours of Kravet’s facilities.

As Chairman of the Board, she succeeds Patricia Sovern, who has held that position since 2010, and who remains a Trustee.
