New York School of Interior Design announces the Nancy Short Award

New York, NY – July 22, 2015 – The New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) announces a generous gift from William P. Short III to create the Nancy Short Award in honor of his late wife Nancy Jean Fulop Short who was a student at the college from 2008 to 2010.

Nancy Short came to NYSID after a 30-year career in securities law – from legal publishing, to practice as a corporate and securities attorney, to teaching corporate finance and securities law. She was awarded a J.D. degree from The University of Toledo College of Law, where she was first in her class, and an LL.M. degree from Yale Law School. At the New York School of Interior Design she pursued an associate degree in interior design with a goal of working in the interior design industry. Like professionals in many fields who come to NYSID in order to change careers, Nancy Short found her studies intellectually challenging, exhilarating, emotionally rewarding and looked forward to a new profession.

The Nancy Short Award recognizes those attorneys who seek new careers in interior design and successfully complete either an undergraduate or graduate program at the New York School of Interior Design. The cash award will be presented at the College’s annual Commencement Exercises, together with other student awards and honors, to celebrate these graduating former attorneys as they begin their work in the interior design profession.

Mr. Short said, “While my wife had a love for the law, she was happiest when she utilized her artistic talents and creativity. Nancy believed that many attorneys pursued legal careers for monetary reasons only to find out later that they should have followed their true feelings. I hope the Nancy Short Award will encourage, and financially aid, these lawyers to take the steps that my wife did.

“I look forward to the day when the Nancy Short Fund exhausts its funds since it will mean that dozens of lawyers have taken up this challenge and completed programs at NYSID. I am sure that nothing would have made my wife happier.”
