ASID Summit in Savannah
A group of NYSID students got the opportunity to attend Launch: The ASID National Student Summit hosted by Savannah College of Art and Design from February 26-28. See photos here. MFA-1 student Daniella Brecher Feldman, BFA students Valerie Genovese and Faith Hoops, and AAS student Clarice Lysenko joined a group of 250 students from around the world for a weekend of leadership, collaboration, and professional development. They attended presentations by key industry speakers and got to tour sites like Caesarstone Quartz Factory (shown above).
Faith Hoops and Valerie Genovese agree that a central highlight of the weekend was being able to attend professional networking events. “It was a weekend focused primarily on learning and networking with no other obligations,” said Faith. “We met everyone from Randy Fiser, the CEO of ASID, to Primo Orpilla, principal at Studio O+A. These are contacts we will take back with us to NYC and keep in touch with them for the rest of our careers. You never know what it could lead to.”
Valerie emphasized that networking with other students was also beneficial: “This trip solidified the idea that ASID is not only a professional organization, it’s also a family. Networking with other students is critical because as emerging professionals, we are each other’s network. ASID is beyond supportive of students and their careers because they recognize that we are the future of the industry.”
