The 2016 award and scholarship season is upon us and NYSID students are once again being honored for their outstanding work.

The International Interior Design Association’s New York Chapter (IIDA NY) recently presented its annual Student Design Awards to students whose original interior design projects demonstrate consistent, creative principles. This year NYSID students won a whopping four of eight possible awards. MFA-2 students Ilya Pulyaev and and Yu Hsian Fu won top prizes in the amount of $3,000, and MPS-S student Yi-Xin Feng and MFA-2 student Po-Chi Chen received honorable mentions.

The Decorators Club hosted its Annual Scholarship Awards on April 27 to honor winners of their annual portfolio competition for New York City’s interior design students. This year NYSID BFA students Kwanghae Lee and Garrett Carter both received awards. Kwanghae won second prize ($10,000) for his “Tourneau’s Time Machine store ” and “Upper East Side Townhouse” designs. Garrett was awarded the Elsie May Gross Scholarship Award ($1,500) for his “Upper East Side Townhouse” design.

On April 19, ASID's New York Metro Chapter presented its 18th Annual Education Legacy Fund (ELF) Scholarship Awards to outstanding interior design students in the New York City area. BFA students Alexis Cardona, Monica Molinaro, and Mariam Ganny all received awards.

Finally, luxury watch retailer Tourneau partnered with NYSID to host a real-world design challenge for students to redesign a section of Tourneau’s flagship store, Time Machine. The competition was a part of the Contract Design courses taught by Joe Goldstein and Barbara Weinrich this spring. First place winner was Can Weng (design pictured above), second place went to Saige Levine and third place to Sholei Shimokawa, all BFA students. The students will all receive Tourneau watches, and Saige will be doing a summer internship at Tourneau.
