Michael I. and Patricia M. Sovern Lecture on Design

On Thursday, November 13, the NYSID community gathered for the first annual Michael I. and Patricia M. Sovern Lecture on Design, made possible by a generous gift from the Soverns for the enrichment of NYSID's public programs.

The lecture was given by Barry Bergdoll, the Meyer Schapiro professor of art history at Columbia University and curator of architecture and design at the Museum of Modern Art. His talk, At Home in the Museum: On the History and Actuality of Architecture on Display, touched upon some of the pivotal moments in the history of displaying architecture, including a number of groundbreaking exhibitions he curated at MoMA. The entire lecture can be viewed online.

Following the lecture, there was a reception in the NYSID Gallery and then a special dinner at the Cosmopolitan Club to honor the Soverns. You can see photos from the lecture, reception, and dinner here.
