Come check out NYSID students’ dining-themed installation at Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS’ (DIFFA) Dining By Design event, on view at Pier 94 from March 21 – 24, 2013. They are taking part in DIFFA’s Student Design Initiative, which invites New York’s most prestigious schools to each create a design installation for the event.

Four NYSID students—Christina Haight (BFA), Youngjin Park (MFA 1), Henry Roa (MFA 2), and Naoko Yamazaki (MFA 2—created a 3-D design installation called Remember, conceived around the theme that HIV/AIDS is still in our midst, and that a cure is yet to be found. “Beauty, represented by the image, is distorted by the voids in the adjacent image, and circles in the superimposed image representing the disease. The void in the tableware is to remind everyone to REMEMBER that the disease is still around, and that we should not forget to raise awareness regarding this.” Said Rene Estacio, NYSID faculty member and advisor for the event; Marc Blackwell is acting as a mentor. 

In its 23rd year, DIFFA helps raise funds for direct care for people living with HIV/AIDS and preventive education for those at risk. The event brings together celebrated individuals in the worlds of fashion, interior design, art, and architecture to create extraordinary dining environments.
