How do I register for classes?

Matriculated Students

Log into the NYSID portal using your NYSID email and password created when you enrolled to the College or set up your account. After logging in, click on the Student tab, then on the Registration token, and follow the instructions.

Non-Matriculated Students (students enrolled in courses but not in a Degree program)

Non-matriculated students who are new to NYSID can register for courses to earn academic credit that can be used towards a degree program.

If you have previously registered for a course at NYSID for credit, log into the NYSID portal using your NYSID email and password that was sent to you with your course registration confirmation and go to the Registration token. If you do not have your password, follow the instructions under the “Getting Started” tab on the portal home page.

If you have not taken a course in more than 2 semesters, click here to register for classes. Your login credentials may have changed since you took a course so contact the Registrar's Office at 212-472-1500, ext. 209 or registration@nysid.edu.

Graduation & Diploma

What are the graduation requirements for students?

To graduate, a student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 in all undergraduate programs or a 3.0 in all MFA programs. Candidates in MPS programs must be in good academic standing with no more than two grades of LP. Students are responsible for being familiar with all academic policies of the College and for tracking their progress in meeting degree requirements.

Students must meet with their academic advisor during registration for the semester prior to their anticipated graduation for a transcript review to determine eligibility. This meeting allows students to identify and register for any required courses they may have missed, some of which are offered only in specific fall or spring semesters.

Students are encouraged to review this information by accessing their account on the NYSID Portal under the Advising tab, Student Course Needs section. Students anticipating graduation within two semesters, or at the time of registration for their final semester, should submit the Graduation Candidacy Form online. The form can be found on the NYSID Portal under the Resources tab. Once completed, the registrar will forward the form to your advisor for approval.

I will complete my degree program in the spring semester. Will I be eligible to participate in commencement in May?

Students registered for their final semester in the spring may participate in commencement, provided their degree audit indicates they are on track for completion.

I will complete my degree program in the fall semester. Will I be eligible to participate in commencement in May?

Yes. NYSID holds commencement once a year in May. If you completed your studies in the fall semester before commencement, you are eligible to participate in the ceremony.

Will I receive my diploma at commencement?

Diplomas are mailed to the address submitted on your NYSID Graduation/Degree Candidacy Form.

When will I receive my diploma?

Diplomas are typically mailed 4 to 8 weeks after the conferral date, provided all degree requirements have been met.

How will I be notified that my diploma is ready?

You will receive an email and text message from the Registrar’s Office and Parchment when your diploma is ready to be claimed and mailed. Diplomas will not be sent to students with holds. All financial obligations must be settled with the Bursar’s Office, and all borrowed library books must be returned.

Can I get a digital version of my diploma?

Yes. NYSID now issues a digital diploma through Parchment.

How can I obtain a replacement diploma?

If your original diploma has been lost, damaged or destroyed, you may order a duplicate diploma from Parchment. Contact them and inform them that the diploma was lost or damaged.

Does NYSID offer diploma frames?

Yes! Browse our collection of diploma frames to find the perfect way to showcase your achievement.
