MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
When you come to NYSID, with a student body of around 750, you enter an environment carefully crafted to accommodate the creative and intellectual needs of students. With a dedicated and talented faculty of 75 working professionals in a variety of disciplines, students enjoy a personal connection to their teachers that simply does not exist at larger institutions. Of equal importance is the flexibility afforded NYSID students to take classes during the day, in the evenings, and on weekends. Few would dispute that New York City is the design capital of the United States and at the epicenter of America’s creative economy. If you want to study and practice the profession of interior design, there is no better place to be than New York City. And there is no other fully accredited, independent, not-for-profit college dedicated to the study of interior design in the City than NYSID. Our graduates come away from their experience at NYSID with a deep understanding of the design profession and the credentials needed to engage in the practice of interior design.  NYSID’s academic facilities are among the most technologically advanced, featuring the latest in computer-aided design, and the College boasts a first-rate library and sophisticated lighting lab. But your education as an interior designer isn’t limited to mastering a particular technology. We value the skill of hand drawing and, through the study of the liberal arts, the cultivation of critical thinking, presentation, and analytical skills—all key elements in the education of a successful designer. NYSID also prepares you for the world of work in interior design and a host of related professions, through courses and workshops in professional practices and through our Office of Career Development. Being in New York City also means having near limitless access to some of the world’s leading museums, design firms, showrooms, and cultural institutions that will inspire and enrich your work, stimulate your mind, and excite your senses.
